Singing Bowls, Gongs & the NeuroVIZR

We often get questions about using the NeuroVIZR combined with your own music instead of playing a session with the integrated Soundscape.  The question is easy to understand however the answer is not a simple yes or no.

Our brain loves predictability and patterns.  It is always looking for the “signal in the noise”.  It wants so to make “sense out of nonsense”.  So, when our brain gets exposed to both light and sound simultaneously, these two sources of information must align for our brain to feel comfortable.  Have you ever watched a poorly dubbed foreign film in which the spoken words down match up with the lips and body language?  It can be very uncomfortable and irritating.

This is why all of the NeuroVIZR sessions have soundscapes that are integrated into the light choreography.

There is one type of music that can match up pretty well with your choice of NeuroVIZR Light Choreography – Singing Bowls and Gongs. Why is that?

The beautiful sounds produced by Singing Bowls (Crystal or Metal) and Gongs are harmonic rich tones that expand and contract like waves and wind.  They are not structured into distinct tempos and beats. Because of these unique qualities, our brain is very forgiving and can merge the sounds with almost any NV Light Choreography from any session.

The following is a selection of Singing Bowl and Gong sound healing tracks that you can easily find on your preferred streaming platform (such as Spotify or YouTube). These are great starting points if you want to experiment with combining external sound with your NeuroVIZR sessions.

To try this, open the NeuroVIZR app and choose a session based on your intention. Once the session starts, lower the volume of the app so it doesn’t interfere with the external audio — the sound should come only from your selected track. Then, using a second device, play your chosen sound healing track and let the two experiences run together.

This setup allows the NeuroVIZR light session to blend with the depth of the soundscape, creating a more immersive and personalized experience. Take a moment to notice how different combinations affect your state, and adjust based on what feels best for you.
